A sleeveless t-shirt and a tank top get lumped together in most searches, but the fit is different. A tank top usually has a thin strap over the shoulder. A sleeveless t-shirt keeps the full shoulder line and collar of a normal tee, the sleeve is just cut off at the armhole. That difference matters more than it sounds like once you are actually training or wearing it out.
What to check before buying one
- Fabric weight. Anything under 180 GSM goes see through fast and loses shape after a few washes. 220 GSM and up holds structure through a full session and past the wash.
- Armhole cut. A raw or distressed armhole sits wider and does not dig into the shoulder on a press or a pull up. A bound, tight armhole will.
- Fit. Oversized and true to size sleeveless tees layer better under a hoodie in colder months and read as streetwear off the gym floor, not just workout gear.
Gym or street, same piece
Most sleeveless gym t-shirts are built only for the gym, thin fabric, tight cut, done. A sleeveless streetwear piece has to work both ways. Our ARCHANGEL-RED and ARCHANGEL-GREEN are 100% cotton, 220 GSM single jersey, oversized fit, with raw distressed hems at the armhole and waist. Built for a training session, worn straight into the rest of the day without looking like gym wear.
If you train and also want one wardrobe instead of two, a heavyweight oversized sleeveless tee is the piece to buy over a thin cotton gym vest.
